Programs
HEALTHY LIVING - The Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. We bring families closer together, encourage good health and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, over 6000 people in our community may receive the support, guidance and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind and body. This is particularly important as our nation struggles with an obesity crisis, families struggle with work/life balance and individuals search for personal fulfillment and socialization. We typically provide a variety of classes, sports leagues, instruction, weight loss programs and wellness activities, including swimming, to ensure members can maintain an effective lifestyle. We opened a new state-of-the-art fitness center in 2022 and a new family friendly locker room in 2025. Our programs are accessible, affordable and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities and income levels. In 2025, we provided $160,000 in financial assistance to people who otherwise may not have been able to afford to participate. Additionally, approximately 26% of our members are active older adults and we provide opportunities for senior members to…

We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That is why we help young people cultivate the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Our YMCA programs, such as before and after school care, summer camp, youth sports, youth swim programs, and other youth activities offer a range of experiences that enrich cognitive, social, physical and emotional growth. Our Before and After School programs provided over 380 children in three towns with opportunities to play, socialize and learn with their classmates in a safe and fun environment which enables parents to work with peace of mind that their children are well cared for. We recognize that there is a lack of affordable day care in our area for our community's youngest children. The YMCA believes that camping significantly contributes to the healthy growth of children by teaching them independence, decision-making, creativity and important social skills. Day camp has also become a primary source of childcare for working…

We have been listening and responding to our community's most critical social needs. YMCA programs, such as the YMCA Community Garden where all produce is delivered to local food pantry, teaching CPR, First Aid and Life Saving classes to our community, Blood Drives and community group access to our facility are examples of how we deliver training, resources and support that empower our neighbors to effect change, bridge gaps and overcome obstacles. We engage YMCA members, participants and volunteers in activities that strengthen our community and pave the way for future generations to thrive.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2020 to 2021, from $4.6M to $6.7M (+46%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 1% · 2019 2% · 2020 1% · 2021 22% · 2022 7% · 2023 5% · 2024 4% · 2025 9%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
15% of Valley Shore YMCA Inc’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (81% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 6 funders to 9 funders, grant income fell $128k → $24k.
5 of 23 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 22% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of Valley Shore YMCA Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
Valley Shore YMCA Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 49% of grant income and the top three 81%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
48% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Valley Shore YMCA Inc.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 78% · 2018 64% · 2019 75% · 2020 40% · 2021 71% · 2022 46% · 2023 42% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
31% of Valley Shore YMCA Inc's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 61% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
Valley Shore YMCA Inc draws 84% of its grant income from funders outside Connecticut, across 8 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $522k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
