Programs
Housing preservation program: solving the affordable housing crisis means pairing new construction with the preservation of existing housing. By partnering with tenant-owned affordable buildings, habitat helps protect long-term affordability and strengthens communities for the future. Our housing preservation program is a holistic program that works with individual buildings on their specific needs, providing low-cost services including construction, financial education, legal monitoring, and more. In fy25, our housing preservation program served 1,112 households through our post-purchase services and technical assistance preservation work. We completed four construction preservation services contracts, resulting in approximately 56 households served. Projects included items such as hallway repairs and painting in common areas, roof repairs and replacements, fire escape repairs, repair and waterproofing of building facades, interior unit and hallway window repairs, concrete replacement, and more. These services, provided at an affordable cost to the co-op, keep costs low and ensure that residents can remain in their homes.

$918,715 spent$14,847 earned by the program21% of program spendingFirst-time homebuyer program: homeownership is essential for families to build strength, stability and self-determination. With so many families being priced out of an increasingly expensive rental market, we believe that working-class new yorkers deserve access to purchase a safe, affordable home. That's why developing both single-family homes and multi-family buildings for low- to moderate-income new yorkers is at the very heart of our mission. For the fiscal year ended june 2025, we completed and sold an affordable co-op unit in brooklyn. We continued with the construction of nyc's first new construction project on interboro community land trust. 13 vacant, dilapidated houses were demolished and are being transformed into 13 modular and 3 rehabilitated solar powered, permanently affordable homes to be sold to qualified homebuyers. Habitat nyc and westchester continued to develop an extensive pipeline of 451 housing units. All locations are financed by private contributions and public subsidies provided by the city and state of new york.
$633,655 spent$70,774 earned by the program15% of program spendingVolunteer engagement: many of our programs depend upon the support of volunteers who donate their time and service. For the fiscal year ended june 2025, we worked with nearly 1,000 volunteers providing over 10,000 service hours from the construction site and community spaces to our restore and office. We also offer pathways to deepen engagement with our mission through leadership-driven opportunities and special events. The operational costs of our volunteer program are financed through private philanthropy including corporate partnerships and individual giving.

Working with supportive advocates and partners at the local, state and federal level, we advocate for legislation that drives habitat nyc and westchester's mission of building and preserving our vibrant, hard-working communities. New yorkers can use their voices to join in our efforts to build and preserve a more equitable city. As a result of our advocacy efforts, in fiscal year 2025, habitat helped pass the local city of yes for housing opportunity zoning text amendment that reformed the city's zoning policies to unlock over 80k units of housing paired with a $5 billion funding commitment for the city for all housing initiative, marking one of the largest housing and infrastructure investments in nyc history. Additionally, habitat led the effort to pass the nys affordable housing retention act into law creating new pathways for rental buildings to convert to homeownership while permanently preserving expiring affordable homes.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $21M to $28M (+35%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 5% · 2018 2% · 2020 0% · 2021 28% · 2023 11% · 2024 1% · 2025 4%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 21 funders to 19 funders, grant income rose $1.3M → $1.4M.
18 of 82 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 18% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
Left out of every figure on this page: $839k from 2 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Habitat Queens Phase II Housing Development Fund Corporation). These are real filings, and they are not money HABITAT FOR HUMANITY NEW YORK CITY AND WESTCHERSTER COUNTY INC raised.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
73% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund HABITAT FOR HUMANITY NEW YORK CITY AND WESTCHERSTER COUNTY INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 45% · 2018 60% · 2019 62% · 2020 33% · 2021 33% · 2022 49% · 2023 57% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
33% of HABITAT FOR HUMANITY NEW YORK CITY AND WESTCHERSTER COUNTY INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 55% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $2.2M arriving through sponsors registered in 14 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
