01What it does

What Snow Leopard Conservancy does

Mission

Ensuring snow leopard survival and conserving mountain landscapes by expanding environmental awareness and sharing innovative practices through community stewardship and partnerships.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Snow Leopard Conservancy (slc) has three overarching program categories: 1.) direct funding support to range country conservation partners and organizations; 2.) technical and facilitation support to partners and conservation programs; and 3.) educational outreach and public events. In 2025, Snow Leopard Conservancy continued its mission to reduce human-wildlife conflict and strengthen community-driven conservation impact through partner-led programs and facilitated collaborative initiatives. At least 13,000 individuals benefited from tools, resources, and education materials provided by slc, and 80 individuals were compensated to facilitate conservation initiatives. Highlighted accomplishments of conflict reduction included the repair of two large communal predator-proof livestock corrals, which now protect more than 42% of animals across two villages and support the livelihoods of 45 households, over half of the two villages. Additionally, 7,660 livestock were vaccinated, safeguarding both animals and communities. Nearly 450 herders participated in human-wildlife conflict reduction/mitigation efforts and 15 workshops were held providing best practices resources and training.…

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 6 funders to 8 funders, grant income fell $218k → $145k.

9 of 26 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 21% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Snow Leopard Conservancy’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Snow Leopard Conservancy leans on a few funders — its largest provides 41% of grant income and the top three 71%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

38% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Snow Leopard Conservancy.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $544k arriving through sponsors registered in 7 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
