What See Forever Foundation does
Mission
To create learning communities in lower income urban areas where all students, particularly those who have not succeeded in traditional schools, can reach their potential, and prepare for college, career, and a lifetime of success. To further its mission, the foundation manages three schools: the maya angelou academy at new beginnings youth development center; the maya angelou academy at the dc department of corrections; and the maya angelou academy at the youth services center.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Program
The See Forever Foundation was created to offer a holistic program to teens involved in the juvenile justice system. At that time, court-involved teens told the organization's co-founders that they wanted to earn money, learn marketable skills, and gain responsibility. When they returned to school, they also wanted to attend small classes with teachers who cared about them, and they wanted help making hard decisions. After several years of operations, the See Forever Foundation has refined its mission to create learning communities in lower income urban areas where all students, particularly those who have not succeeded in traditional schools, can reach their potential and prepare for college, career, and a lifetime of success. To further its mission, the foundation manages three schools inside secure facilities; new beginnings, youth services center, and department of corrections, which provide core academic instruction school programming; ged and sat prep classes; computer skills courses; college tours, and other enrichment programs.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2020 to 2021, from $6.1M to $1.8M (−71%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 93% · 2018 95% · 2019 98% · 2020 99% · 2021 98% · 2022 98% · 2023 98% · 2024 93% · 2025 95%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
100% of SEE FOREVER FOUNDATION’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (95% for the typical peer).

8 of 22 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 12% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
SEE FOREVER FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 85% of grant income and the top three 94%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 59% · 2018 60% · 2019 100% · 2020 97% · 2021 90% · 2022 93% · 2023 94% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
25% of SEE FOREVER FOUNDATION's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 36% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
SEE FOREVER FOUNDATION draws 98% of its grant income from funders outside Washington, D.C., across 7 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.1M arriving through sponsors registered in 7 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
