01What it does

What Healthcorps Inc does

Mission

Healthcorps is a national nonprofit empowering teens to build lifelong healthy habits. Through practical education in physical, mental, and community wellness, we equip students with skills, confidence, and near-peer mentors to become change agents in their families, schools, and neighborhoodscreating positive ripple effects that strengthen communities and improve youth well-being.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. At the core of healthcorps' work is a simple but powerful idea: meet teens where they are. The organization embeds trained near-peer mentors in schools to deliver hands-on lessons and lead student-driven activities focused on nutrition, physical activity, and mental resilience. Mentors not only teach, but also coach and connect, making health education approachable and relevant.students engage through weekly clubs, school-wide events, and service projects that reinforce healthy habits and leadership skills that they can carry with them for life. Meanwhile, teachers gain critical support, schools benefit from stronger engagement, and ripple effects bring stronger workforce preparedness and health outcomes for the entire community.rigorous evaluation has been central to healthcorps since its inception in 2003 -independent evaluations and student surveys consistently show that healthcorps works. To ensure the program's fidelity, students are evaluated each year 84% of healthcorps students improved in at least one targeted health behavior(I.e. Exercising more, eating healthier, feeling happier) during the '24 '25 school year.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 13 funders to 19 funders, grant income fell $961k → $745k.

11 of 55 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 22% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of HEALTHCORPS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 55 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

HEALTHCORPS INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 42% of grant income and the top three 56%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

27% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund HEALTHCORPS INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $2.6M arriving through sponsors registered in 8 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
