01What it does

What Global Poverty Project Inc does

Mission

Our mission is to build a movement of global citizens whose actions will help achieve our vision of a world without extreme poverty.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Advocacy and policy campaigns and events: in 2024, global citizen hosted multiple global campaigns that aimed to further its mission to end extreme poverty. The policy agenda for 2024 centered on defeating poverty by focusing on health, food security, financing for development, protecting the planet, and ensuring advocates everywhere have the opportunity to call for removing systemic barriers that keep people in poverty. These campaigns culminated in multiple high-profile moments: the first in melbourne, where gavi announced an hpv vaccination campaign in timor-leste in july 2024 that will reach an estimated 86,000 girls and women; the second in new york city, (continued on schedule o)

We harness the power of artists, policy-makers, private sector leaders, and people everywhere to achieve our vision. Global citizen's mission is to build the world's largest movement of action-taking global citizens to end extreme poverty now. Global citizen's efforts to eradicate extreme poverty have resulted in concrete actions on global systemic issues and have secured policy and financial commitments from world leaders. Since 2012, $43.6 billion in commitments announced on global citizen platforms has been deployed, impacting nearly 1.3 billion lives.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 7 funders to 24 funders, grant income rose $6.4M → $25M.

24 of 77 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 20% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of GLOBAL POVERTY PROJECT INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 77 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

GLOBAL POVERTY PROJECT INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 30% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $21M arriving through sponsors registered in 12 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
