01What it does

What Christ's Haven for Children Inc does

Mission

Provide a warm, loving, christian environment in which children in need of basic care can grow physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Reunite families that come to us in need, as we support the growth of confident young people with strong life skills.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Christ's haven cares for youth when their families aren't able through a trauma-informed, family model of care for displaced children, teens, and young adults. As a voluntary placement organization, we are an option outside of traditional foster care, often when a caregiver has exhausted all efforts to care for a child. No matter how long a child lives at christ's haven's neighborhood of homes, we utilize that time loving them as our own and instilling normalcy, dignity, and hope into their lives.

  2. Residential program (ages 0-18): as a voluntary placement organization, christ's haven is an option outside of traditional foster care, often when a caregiver has exhausted all efforts to care for a child. Families and kids come to christ's haven for a variety of reasons, but typically there has been some type of abuse, neglect, or the family is unable to take care of them.

  3. College & career readiness program (ages 18-24):an 18-year old shouldn't be expected to figure out how to launch into adulthood on their own. Christ's haven offers an alternative for teens who might otherwise age out of the foster care system. Teens and young adults are provided with housing, transportation, tuition support, and access to critical tools and skills needed. This comprehensive program provides the platform for a successful launch into adulthood. All while they gain independence and maturity with someone supporting and cheering them along.

  4. Family resource center:all families go through challenging times. Christ's haven's family resource center (frc) was created to stand in the gap for local families in need. This program provides a preventative component to help keep families together. Christ's haven staff work with families individually and are able to provide food support from our food pantry, counseling, parent/caregiver education, crisis resources, and case management.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 7 funders to 38 funders, grant income rose $155k → $798k.

11 of 62 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 67% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CHRIST'S HAVEN FOR CHILDREN INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 62 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

CHRIST'S HAVEN FOR CHILDREN INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 54% of grant income and the top three 65%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

72% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund CHRIST'S HAVEN FOR CHILDREN INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Where its funders are

67% of CHRIST'S HAVEN FOR CHILDREN INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $2.5M that is directly attributable, 85% of it comes from Texas funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $4.9M arriving through sponsors registered in 10 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
