01What it does

What Boys & Girls Club of Door County Inc does

Mission

The boys & girls club of door county is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

As stated on its FY2023 Form 990.

Program

  1. Our sole purpose is to provide high quality out-of-school time (ost) for youth ages 5-17. Our 11-week summer program serves youth for 50 hours per week with educational enrichment, social emotional support, recreation and fitness, and farm-to-table gardening activities in a fun, safe environment. We serve over 235 members by providing opportunities to participate in academic enrichment programs that reinforce reading and math skills. Stem programs include nasa, robotics (lego award & edison), prodigy, and destination imagination, a nationally recognized program that delivers hands-on educational experiences across seven project-based challenge types -technical, scientific, engineering, fine arts, improvisational, service learning, and early learning. Youth were exposed to social emotional learning competencies such as positive relationships, positive self-image, conflict resolution, problem solving, and self-management, which are woven throughout our positive youth development programming.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 6 funders to 14 funders, grant income rose $135k → $181k.

9 of 31 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 37% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF DOOR COUNTY INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 31 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF DOOR COUNTY INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 19% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

68% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF DOOR COUNTY INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $504k arriving through sponsors registered in 8 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
