What Angels Gate Cultural Center Inc does
Mission
To provide space for artists to work and to engage community through arts education, exhibitions of contemporary art, and cultural events.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Arts education: agcc has a long history of integrating the arts into schools in the la harbor region. The core of agcc's education programming, artists-in-classrooms, places professional artists into local k-12 classrooms to provide high-quality, sequential arts education during the school day. This program brings arts education to over 3,000 students and teachers in high-need local schools annually. Additionally, agcc's arts + exploration field trips offers local students the opportunity to visit our gallery on a guided tour followed by an art workshop, serving over 1,100 local students each year. Our teen mural club provides youth, 13-22 years old, the opportunity to learn about and create public works of art on-site in angels gate park, while gaining critical life skills. The center values arts education at all ages and skill levels; through our on-site community classes program, we offer a wide range of adult art classes, taught on-site at the center by local artists. Our monthly family art workshop and artlab: science & art workshop are free and open to the public, providing multi-generational opportunities for families to engage in the creative process together.
$778,541 spent$191,536 earned by the program71% of program spendingExhibitions: we investigate contemporary art through a diverse array of artistic practices, cultures, media, and innovation in our 3,000 square foot gallery. Guest curators examine new ideas surrounding notions of community and the marginalized, in addition to conceptual explorations of art. The center strongly values the importance of compensating curators and artists in our efforts to support the vibrancy of our shared creative culture. Exhibitions feature emerging, midcareer, and established artists who create work locally and internationally. We support approximately 150 artists and independent curators every year through a robust calendar of 8+ exhibitions and reach community members in los angeles county and beyond via associated gallery events. To respond to the challenge of limited physical access to art spaces, agcc offers virtual gallery tours for our exhibitions made publicly available online.
$219,307 spent$16,103 earned by the program20% of program spendingStudio artists: agcc offers a supportive and nurturing space where professional artists can work, collaborate, immerse themselves in and grow their practice. Studios range in size and are offered on a three-year lease at below-market rates. We currently offer studio space for 52 artists within our eleven historic buildings, including musicians, ceramists, painters, sculptors, writers, photographers, printmakers and jewelers. Agcc hosts two open studios days annually, events that offer the public a unique inside look at what it means to be a working artist.
$98,688 spent$388,324 earned by the program9% of program spendingArts/cultural events: a critical component of agcc's mission is to engage our community, including those from historically marginalized groups, in the arts and provide access to cultural resources. Minority groups are still historically underrepresented in art institutions. We seek to address this inequity by elevating the perspectives of marginalized groups. By partnering with those who have previously been excluded, agcc encourages the sharing of new voices and perspectives, which are critical to our shared cultural exchange. Agcc hosts a variety of workshops, events, and festivals led by community partners on-site for all ages, such as the other places art fair (opaf), soundpedro, and the many winters gathering of elders, led by the indigenous community.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $629k to $1.8M (+193%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2019 14% · 2020 14% · 2021 23% · 2022 3% · 2023 19% · 2024 12% · 2025 14%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
55% of ANGELS GATE CULTURAL CENTER INC’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (63% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 8 funders, grant income rose $121k → $640k.
4 of 20 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 2% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is
ANGELS GATE CULTURAL CENTER INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 31% of grant income and the top three 74%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 83% · 2018 76% · 2019 91% · 2020 29% · 2021 46% · 2022 37% · 2023 73% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
50% of ANGELS GATE CULTURAL CENTER INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 60% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
98% of ANGELS GATE CULTURAL CENTER INC's grant income comes from California funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $61k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
