What Womens Foundation of the South does

Mission

The mission of wfs is to invest in the health, wealth, and power of women, girls, and gender expansive people in the u.s. South. We center the lives of those most impacted by injustice, recognizing their unrealized promise and vital role in community transformation.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Wfs envisions a flourishing south where women, girls, and gender expansive people of color are healthy, safe, and well-resourced to determine their own destinies and ensure that they and their families thrive. Wfs aims to be a permanent, endowed institution that serves as a gateway for donors, foundations, corporations, and individual investors to maximize the social impact of their investments in women and girls of color in the south. We value the brilliance of mother wit, equity justice, sisterhood, power-sharing, ingenuity, self-determination, and community wisdom.in 2023, wfs expanded our team and raised money toward reaching its full 13-state focus area across the southern u.s. Rooted in louisiana, wfs expanded its services in 2023 to include organizations led by women of color in the states of georgia and texas, expanding our footprint to a total of four states. Since launching the woc@rest program, 91 nonprofit leaders have participated in four cohorts, and wfs has invested over $1m in grants and programmatic investment. Our radical approach to philanthropy is exemplified in our award-winning program, woc@rest. This program, curated in partnership with junebug productions,…

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $991k arriving through sponsors registered in 9 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
