What United Way of Central Oklahoma Inc does

Mission

United way of central oklahoma is committed to connecting people and resources to improve the well being of those in our community.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. The united way of central oklahoma is a charitable organization with a vision to build a stronger, healthier, and more compassionate community. We accomplish this by vetting convening and funding qualified health, youth, and human service nonprofit agencies who serve the local needs of communities within seven central oklahoma counties and by offering local volunteer opportunities to support their services. Since 1923, united way of central oklahoma has partnered with nonprofit agencies to provide expertise, support, and solutions to meet the needs of local citizens. We fund programs of partner agencies with donations collected from the public in an annual campaign held in the fall. The donated funds are distributed the following year to partner agencies through an allocation process called community investment. To support our commitment to accountability and transparency, allocation decisions are made by more than 200 community volunteers from our donor base who invest over 4,000 hours each year in this process, as well as donor-determined designations, which are approved by united way's board of directors. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 24 funders to 54 funders, grant income rose $624k → $3.5M.

22 of 99 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 21% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $9.3M from 15 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Love Family Affiliated Fund of Occf Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money United Way of Central Oklahoma Inc raised.

From the IRS filings of United Way of Central Oklahoma Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 99 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

United Way of Central Oklahoma Inc has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 16% of grant income, and it takes 7 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 7 funders to its left

28% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund United Way of Central Oklahoma Inc.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

64% of United Way of Central Oklahoma Inc's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 78% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $3.6M arriving through sponsors registered in 16 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
