Mission

We are the leading provider of child care, aquatics and wellness programs to children, the disabled, and seniors; with an emphasis on outreach to the underserved. We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Our programs, services and initiatives focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Our ymca is founded and led by volunteers from our community. Volunteers also work side by side with us as mentors, coaches, program leaders, fundraisers and in other ways to help strengthen our community.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Youth development - our ymca programs, such as y-kids and summer day camp, offer a range of experiences that enrich social-emotional, congnitive and physical growth. Expenses include subsidies and direct financial assistance that make participation possible for 25 percent of the young people we engage. Our ymca is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe all kids have great potential and deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That is why we help young people cultivate the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.

We bring families closer together, encourage good health and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, about 8,600 people in our community are receiving the support, guidance and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind and body. This is particularly important as our nation struggles wit chronic disease and obesity, families wrestle with work/life balance and individuals search for personal fulfillment. Our programs are accessible, affordable and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities, and income levels.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 4 funders to 8 funders, grant income rose $38k → $60k.

3 of 25 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 1% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of OCEAN COUNTY YMCA INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

OCEAN COUNTY YMCA INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 34% of grant income and the top three 65%; half comes from just 2 funders.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $11k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
