What Listen Foundation Inc does
Mission
The Listen Foundation provides for and assists children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families, with access to a proven speech, language, and listening therapy method to help them achieve a life of independence. This includes providing support programs for families and professionals that are involved in helping these children achieve their goal of learning to listen and talk.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
Listening and Spoken Language Therapy Program is a parent-centered approach that focuses on listening as the primary input for learning spoken language. With the use of hearing aids and/or cochlear implants, these children learn to listen, comprehend spoken language and to speak and read. This is not a technique, but rather a way of life that is practiced daily. All families now have access to a Listen ReferralTherapist through telehealth videoconferencing where distance traveled, or other factors make this the most practical methodology.
$224,352 spent$88,410 earned by the program58% of program spendingThe Listen CI (Cochlear Implant) Camp helps build a much-needed peer group for children with cochlear implants and their parents who are often navigating the mainstreamed and hearing loss communities alone. Camp encourages participants to share their experiences and learn from each other to address their needs at different ages and stages of development in a warm, accepting environment. For many, this is the only opportunity they have to spend time with other families whose children have cochlear implants. Children and their siblings gain self-confidence by seeing and relating to others like them.
$134,915 spent$2,060 earned by the program35% of program spendingEarly Intervention Services is a statewide, home-based early intervention program that supports newly diagnosed children with hearing loss from birth to age three. The Listen Foundation contracts directly with state agencies responsible for delivering therapy services to infants and toddlers immediately following a hearing loss diagnosis. Integrating into this state-run but federally funded program for children with disabilities has been a decades-long effort. Historically, sign language has been the primary communication option presented to parents; however, the Listen Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that families also have access to Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) therapy. Once an LSL therapist is assigned to a family for weekly home visits, a portion of the cost is funded by the government. The Listen Foundation covers the remaining costs, including therapist travel expenses, as they serve an expanding metro area. Currently, the Listen Foundation holds contracts with eight state agencies.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $1.6M to $2.8M (+72%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2021 3% · 2023 0%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 9 funders to 11 funders, grant income rose $135k → $142k.
7 of 31 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 25% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of LISTEN FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 31 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
LISTEN FOUNDATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 42% of grant income and the top three 68%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
39% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LISTEN FOUNDATION INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 39% · 2018 36% · 2019 58% · 2020 16% · 2021 42% · 2022 86% · 2023 33% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
36% of LISTEN FOUNDATION INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 58% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
LISTEN FOUNDATION INC draws 59% of its grant income from funders outside Colorado, across 9 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $448k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
