What Ecolibrium3 does
Mission
Ecolibrium3's mission is to lead and inspire change in our community toward an equitable and sustainable future. We work at the intersection of energy, equity, and economic vitality.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).
Energy: in 2025, Ecolibrium3 helped over 170 households reduce their energy costs through our energy assessment and low-income weatherization program. In addition to utility bill consultations, a home energy analysis, and steps for increasing energy efficiency, we developed an improved audit program that includes an electrification assessment, augmented with healthy housing, rain-readiness, and aging-in-place recommendations. This will improve housing stock, enhance health outcomes, and reduce energy burdens. Our community-owned, low-income solar project, the lincoln park solar garden continues to provide funding to support a transitional housing project for veterans and an energy fund to help low-income community members make their homes more energy efficient. We also launched an energy training corps, an americorps program that equips community members with robust training and energy industry certifications to prepare them for careers in the growing energy industry. This 25+ member crew will complete work that improves the efficiency of local housing stock and reduces utility costs for residents. Ecolibrium3 also partnered with the national lab of the rockies to explore the…

Ecolibrium3 serves as the lead community-based organization working to advance health, safety, economic development, and connectedness. In 2025 we completed the renovation of the lincoln park community center. Renamed the lnpk hub, the rejuvenated facility serves as an expanded community center, hosts events and meetings, and provides public computer access. The lnpk hub has been a home for our expanded wellness programming, including walking wellness uplift, an elder-centered, holistic health class. Over the summer, we teamed up with high school and college students for intergenerational connection. Since the start of this program, we have worked with 20 elders and 15 students. The hub is also the site from which we co-lead the duluth age friendly initiative to advance a thriving community for people of all ages. We have continued our support of the economic revitalization of lincoln park through the strategic merger of Ecolibrium3's award-winning main street lincoln park with the lincoln park business group. And, we…

The eco3 vista corps focused on addressing poverty holistically from various angles such as food access and systems, government policy, community development, education, public health, creative place making, energy security and more. Eco3 vista members worked with organizations that are deeply embedded in the community to help develop solutions to community challenges through leveraging resources, building partnerships, expanding reach and improving organizational efficiency. Members recruited 516 volunteers and leveraged $4.5 million of resources for their agencies. In addition, over 300 youth were aided by member projects. Ecolibrium3 also built regional capacity by assisting other organizations and governmental agencies in program and resource development centered on energy, environment, active transportation, and industrial transformation.
$294,700 spent$315 earned by the program22% of program spendingFood access: the lincoln park neighborhood is duluth's highest priority food area with high levels of poverty, low vehicle access, and limited food variety provided only through convenience stores. Our food access programming seeks to expand health equity in the neighborhood by increasing consistent access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food through our urban farm, health and wellness programming, and the development of a small footprint grocery store. In 2025, the eco3 urban farm grew and harvested over 5100 pounds of fresh produce for the community. We expanded our reach by joining the central hillside farmer's market, selling around 2900 pounds of fresh produce, and we donated 1800 pounds of produce to other food access programs. In the fall, we hosted a gleaning day with lake superior college, at which over 900 pounds of produce were harvested by students. During the 2025 season, over 150 community members visited our farm for workshops, community gatherings, volunteering, and tours. In addition to growing produce, we held whole food cooking classes, teaching community members how to cook and use a variety of spices, herbs, and culinary equipment. We worked with 22 adults…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $1.6M to $2.6M (+65%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 40% · 2018 33% · 2019 51% · 2020 14% · 2021 42% · 2022 72% · 2023 74% · 2024 91% · 2025 82%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base held at 3 funders, grant income fell $148k → $120k.
3 of 22 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 31% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of ECOLIBRIUM3’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
ECOLIBRIUM3 has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 29% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left
79% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ECOLIBRIUM3.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 44% · 2018 44% · 2019 32% · 2020 36% · 2021 31% · 2022 69% · 2023 63% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
45% of ECOLIBRIUM3's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 41% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
ECOLIBRIUM3 draws 65% of its grant income from funders outside Minnesota, across 8 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $441k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
