01What it does

What Communitys Child Inc does

Mission

Working with the community to transition homeless and disadvantaged women and children into valued and contributing members of society.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2025 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

The organization sold the homeless shelter to a not for profit approximately halfway through the year so you will only see activity for about half the year. They are focusing more on homeless services (rather than on housing) and community outreach programs at their other location.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. Communitys childs healthy bags program delivers nutritious groceries to food-insecure school-age children every friday. Our volunteers fill each bag with nutritious nonperishable items, fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain bread. There is enough food in each bag to feed a family for the weekend. This program relies heavily on community donations and volunteerism.

    $1,943,126 spent
    81% of program spending
  2. Programs to serve to enhance the mental, physical, social, and spiritual development of disadvantaged and homeless families in the south bay. Our education programs include classes in nutrition, health, d.v. Prevention, esl, literacy, cpr and emergency first aid, parenting and employment readiness. We also provide diapers, seasonal clothing, infant care items, personal hygiene products, music lessons and theater tickets. Our community clinic provides health, vision and dental screenings, and community resources. Our back to school program provides children with backpacks, filled with school supplies. Our thanksgiving program provides 200 food hampers. Our christmas program sponsors 350 children

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 13 funders, grant income rose $43k → $173k.

4 of 29 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 16% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of COMMUNITYS CHILD INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 26 of 29 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

COMMUNITYS CHILD INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 18% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

61% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund COMMUNITYS CHILD INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

50% of COMMUNITYS CHILD INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 69% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $233k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
