01What it does

What Berea's Animal Rescue Fund Inc does

Mission

Berea animal rescue fund, inc., ("arf") is a not-for-profit organization that shelters, rejuvenates and finds homes for stray animals that are brought to the shelter. Arf is committed to the health and well-being of stray animals for an unlimited period of time, as well as caring for and nurturing them until an appropriate match can be made into an adoptive home. Arf stands apart from many other shelters in that it places no time limit on length of stay, nor a cap on medical spending to bring the animals in our care back to health and vitality.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. 2025 program accomplishments: angels for animals is a program berea arf established in 2006, which is a fund that allows us to finance the emergency and special medical needs of animals that arrive to us requiring special and emergency medical care. This fund allows us to care for these animals without interrupting daily shelter operations. Ounder the wing program allows people to access temporary foster care for their pets during times of crisis where the alternative would be surrendering. This program allows the person to heal from illness, transition into stable housing, or otherwise get back on their feet without the stress of worrying about their pet. This program helps keep pets with their humans and out of shelters. Othe prison foster program benefits human inmates, as well as our shelter dogs. After an inmate completes a dog training program, they are then placed with one of our shelter dogs. While in the inmates' care, the dogs complete behavioral training, which makes them highly sought after by potential adopters, and the inmate learns responsibility and has a sense of purpose while incarcerated. Berea arf partners with grafton correctional and lorain correctional.…

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base held at 3 funders, grant income fell $64k → $11k.

10 of 22 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 55% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of BEREA'S ANIMAL RESCUE FUND INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

BEREA'S ANIMAL RESCUE FUND INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 28% of grant income and the top three 59%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

62% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BEREA'S ANIMAL RESCUE FUND INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $168k arriving through sponsors registered in 8 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
