01What it does

What United Territories of Pacific Islanders Washington-Utopia Wa does

Mission

We are actively replacing systems of oppression with ecosystems of care and safety for all our communities through Black and Brown organizing, prioritizing land and bodily autonomy, and reclaiming our cultural narratives.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2025 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

Community Services - Initially the work of Community Services was going on under the other programs, we saw potential growth and the program began in Jan 2025 as a separate program.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. The UTOPIA Washington Youth Program is dedicated to empowering young people to thrive and lead by amplifying their voices, breaking barriers, and fostering opportunities for future success. Our vision is to create a world where all young people are empowered to lead, advocate, and excel while shaping a more equitable future for their communities. Our program centers leadership development, advocacy, and academic success while uplifting the identities and lived experiences of Queer and Trans Pacific Islander and QTBIPOC youth. Through culturally grounded mentorship, community engagement, and educational programming, we create spaces where young people are encouraged to embrace their authentic selves while developing the skills needed to become leaders in their schools and communities. At the heart of the UTOPIA WA Youth Program is a commitment to honoring Indigenous cultural practices, storytelling, and community values while supporting youth in navigating the challenges they may face in educational and social systems. In 2025, the program experienced significant growth and impact. One of the major highlights was our participation in the Lau Samoa Academic and Cultural Arts…

  2. Our Community Services team continued our Starlight & Moonlight outreach activities. These activities take place twice a month to provide resources to unhoused individuals, street based sex workers, and community members with limited access to basic needs. This activity provided warm meals, hygiene & safe sex kits, self-defense & harm reduction supplies, and resources to support victims of crimes and sexual abuse. With the recent passing of the SOAP/SODA laws out of the City of Seattle Council, compounded with the presence of ICE and local law enforcements, our team staff has observed a decline while trying to engage community members. Many street-based workers had relocated further away from the usual areas which caused us to venture further away from our usual meeting locations. This in turn provided more safety for our street workers as we carried out our commitments to meeting them where they are most comfortable - Community Members served: 219, Care Work: 82 Active In 2025, UTOPIA Washingtons Food Access Network Program continued advancing our organizations mission and values by strengthening food access, supporting environmental justice efforts, and serving communities…

  3. Mapu Maia Clinic is a community-based health program focused on improving access to care for transgender and gender-diverse people, Pacific Islanders, people of color, and individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. Our goal is simple: to make healthcare easier to access for people who often face barriers when trying to get the care they need. Many members of the communities we serve have experienced challenges in traditional healthcare systems. These can include lack of insurance, high costs, language barriers, discrimination, or difficulty finding providers who understand their cultural background or lived experiences. Mapu Maia Clinic works to help reduce those barriers by providing services in a way that is respectful, welcoming, and rooted in community. Through the clinic, we provide free and low-cost health services, health education, patient navigation, and referrals to trusted providers. A large part of our work involves helping people understand how to access care, find the right services, and navigate complicated healthcare systems. For many of our patients, this support makes it possible for them to receive care they may not have otherwise been able to access. We…

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 4 funders to 25 funders, grant income rose $60k → $3.4M.

16 of 68 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 25% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of UNITED TERRITORIES OF PACIFIC ISLANDERS WASHINGTON-UTOPIA WA’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 68 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

UNITED TERRITORIES OF PACIFIC ISLANDERS WASHINGTON-UTOPIA WA has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 21% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

67% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund UNITED TERRITORIES OF PACIFIC ISLANDERS WASHINGTON-UTOPIA WA.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $2.8M arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
