01What it does

What Support and Feed Inc does

Mission

Support+feed combats food insecurity and mitigates the climate crisis while working for a global shift to an equitable, plant-based food system.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

On its FY2024 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

The organization stopped conducting its gardening program.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. Support+feed is dedicated to creating an equitable, plant-based food system that nourishes people and protects the planet. Founded in 2020, our purpose is primarily to provide plant-based meals prepared by local vegan restaurants to people experiencing food insecurity and to educate the public about the benefits of plant-based eating. In 2024 we helped provide 800,000 meals and pantry items across 11 us & international cities, reached nearly 4 million people through digital engagement, and held 122 onsite classes and events. Board members and 250 volunteers contributed 6,152 hours in 2024, valued at $252,053.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2021 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 15 funders, grant income rose $26k → $1.4M.

13 of 33 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 75% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SUPPORT AND FEED INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 33 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SUPPORT AND FEED INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 61% of grant income and the top three 73%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

90% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SUPPORT AND FEED INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

75% of SUPPORT AND FEED INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $1.5M that is directly attributable, 68% of it comes from California funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $4.5M arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
