Mission
Provides youth in grades k-8 with the skills needed to succeed in the digital economy.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
After-school programming (asp) providing k-8 computer science classes to students in 9 public schools, 5 charter schools, 10 community centers, and 1 bus, reaching over 3,800 students. Depending upon the program and student grade level, students got to: explore the scratch coding language (used in creating games and animations); learned how to set up a website using the coding languages html and css; learned foundational coding concepts through both un-plugged and plugged (using computers) activities; app development where students explored the process of developing an app with a partner; an exploration of robotics using the finch robots, beebots, ozobots, or hummingbird kits.

In the sto-rox school district we provided seventeen classes per week to students in grades 3-6. Students in 3rd grade explored computer programming/coding using the scratch coding language; 4th grade worked on robotics using finch robots; 5th grade focused on learning how to set up a webpage using html and css coding languages; 6th grade learned how to develop an app working on teams to research the need, the audience, and the basics of setting up an app. During the app development process, students learned how to work collaboratively and how to do online research.

Cs (computer science) explorers summer camp provided an exploration of cs for students in middle school. Students explored six different areas of cs such as ai, cybersecurity, animation and gaming, advanced manufacturing, robotics, and big data. Students met with area professionals who work in the field and were able to ask questions. In addition to the cs explorers program, we also ran techarcade, a program for 3-5th graders to build arcade games leveraging creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and computational and design thinking.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $834k to $1.6M (+93%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
75% of STEM CODING LAB INC’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (48% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2019 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 15 funders, grant income rose $15k → $1.1M.
8 of 31 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 15% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of STEM CODING LAB INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 31 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
STEM CODING LAB INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 23% of grant income, and it takes 5 funders to reach half.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 5 funders to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2019 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 31% · 2022 29% · 2023 56% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
50% of STEM CODING LAB INC's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 61% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
94% of STEM CODING LAB INC's grant income comes from Pennsylvania funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $584k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
