01What it does

What Mission Lazarus Inc does

Mission

To cultivate dignity and purpose so that individuals can live abundant lives now and for eternity.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Mission lazarus operates the refuge in honduras, a residential children's community that provides a safe, christ-centered home for neglected, orphaned, and vulnerable children. Children live in family-style homes where they receive nutritious meals, healthcare, education, counseling, and spiritual discipleship. The refuge seeks to prepare each child for a productive, independent adulthood while providing the love, stability, and opportunities every child deserves.

  2. The hacienda serves as mission lazarus' primary ministry campus in honduras. From this location, the organization operates its administrative offices, warehouse, private school, vocational training programs, medical clinic, coffee farm, guest lodge, restaurant, and other community development initiatives. These ministries work together to address both physical and spiritual poverty by providing education, healthcare, vocational training, employment opportunities, agricultural development, and christian discipleship throughout southern honduras.

  3. Mission lazarus operates christian schools in both honduras and haiti that provide high-quality education to children living in some of the region's most impoverished communities. In addition to academic instruction, students receive nutritious meals, character development, and spiritual formation in a safe and nurturing environment. For many students, the meals provided at school represent the most reliable source of daily nutrition, while the education they receive creates opportunities to break the cycle of poverty.if possible, I would also like to expand the "other program services" description (or include this language in schedule o, if that is the appropriate location) to better represent the full scope of our ministry. I would suggest something along these lines:other program services include primary healthcare, mobile medical clinics, church planting and spiritual formation through houses of peace, economic development initiatives, agricultural training, coffee production, artisan enterprises, vocational education, disaster response, humanitarian assistance, and community development programs in honduras and haiti.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 9 funders to 16 funders, grant income rose $248k → $755k.

15 of 41 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 39% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of MISSION LAZARUS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 41 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

MISSION LAZARUS INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 36% of grant income and the top three 65%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

87% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MISSION LAZARUS INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $2.3M arriving through sponsors registered in 10 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
