What Innercity Weightlifting Inc does

Icw's mission is to reduce gun violence by amplifying the voice and agency of people who have been most impacted by systemic racism and mass incarceration.

Program
In 2025, we supported 63 participants in employment and certified 65 as personal trainers. We worked with 200 participants overall (all of whom received wraparound support services), 23 corporate clients, and nearly 1,000 training clients. We completed our $15m, 5-year comprehensive campaign, enabling us to execute our 5-year strategic plan. In october, we celebrated our 15th anniversary, giving us the chance to reflect on how we've grown and where we're going.in january of 2010, we launched icw. We held our first weightlifting session in a basement gym, with four participants. As we descended the steps, we walked with excitement, wondering whether this would make a meaningful impact. We quickly evolved from a weightlifting program to a career track in personal training, with the aim of increasing economic mobility. We opened our first gym in 2012 and began to grow our client base. Today, we have 5 gyms in boston and our first dedicated gym in chicago. We've built the capacity to serve 200 participants annually, reaching nearly 1,000 unique clients, and have completed over 75,000 personal training sessions.
