What Hunger Free Oklahoma Inc does

Mission

Hunger free oklahoma, inc. (hfo) is leveraging the power of collaboration to solve hunger in oklahoma by improving systems, policies, and practices.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Double up oklahoma (duo) is a community-level intervention that seeks to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables for low-income and food-insecure oklahomans. Specifically, duo matches snap dollars spent at participating grocery stores and farmers markets up to $20 per day towards fresh fruits and vegetables. The model increases snap participants' food security by increasing their purchasing power, incentivizes healthy choices, supports local businesses, and leads to greater access to fresh fruits and vegetables for the entire community in which it operates.

  2. Hunger free oklahoma's hunger outreach program connects people in need to federal nutrition programs through direct support, such as summer ebt, hunger free oklahoma's snap assistance hotline or www.meals4kidsok.org, and by connecting community partners to available federal nutrition programs. Addressing access to these programs will help alleviate family food insecurity. By collaborating with over 600 direct service providers and equipping them with outreach tools, education, training and technical assistance, research, and more for these programs allows our partners to focus on what they do best to serve their food-insecure clients and ensure those clients experience high quality service. This contributes directly to our mission, "leveraging the power of collaboration to solve hunger in oklahoma by improving systems, policies, and practices."

Families can receive a food package valued at $120 per eligible child. This initiative includes support for tribal administration of summer ebt, providing vital nutritional support when children lack access to school meals.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 11 funders, grant income rose $5k → $9.4M.

5 of 22 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 57% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of HUNGER FREE OKLAHOMA INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

HUNGER FREE OKLAHOMA INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 55% of grant income and the top three 76%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

84% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund HUNGER FREE OKLAHOMA INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

50% of HUNGER FREE OKLAHOMA INC's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 41% give in more than one year at all.

Where its funders are

57% of HUNGER FREE OKLAHOMA INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $7.3M that is directly attributable, 60% of it comes from Oklahoma funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $9.8M arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
