01What it does

What Hibiscus Children's Center Inc does

Mission

To provide temporary shelter for abused and neglected children and support families at risk of abuse.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Residential programs - hibiscus residential programs provide a safe environment for newborns to 18 year olds with 24-hour awake supervision, medical and dental care, plus psychological counseling through facilities at its jensen beach shelter and vero beach children's village. At these facilities, children live in a home-like environment where they can more naturally prepare for successful transition into foster or adoptive homes. Hibiscus is the only licensed residential child care shelter on the treasure coast of florida. The facilities care for children removed from their families by court order. Hibiscus residential programs provided approximately 23,037 nights of safe care.

  2. Clinical programs - hibiscus clinical programs provide a wide range of mental health service to residential and outpatient clients. These services include individual, family and group therapy, psychiatric evaluation, medication management and many more critical services that support children and their families in our community. Over 708 families were provided services during the year.

  3. Support for families in crisis is a nationally recognized abuse prevention program for families who seek help voluntarily. Support includes counseling, housing and mental health services. Approximately 651 families were assisted.

  4. Safe care program provides home-based prevention services with an individual or family focus that includes assessment, case planning, case management, education, and/or skill buidling that have shown to be effective in preventing child abuse.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base held at 18 funders, grant income rose $1.4M → $1.5M.

11 of 51 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 7% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $3.8M from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Hibiscus Children's Center Foundation Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money HIBISCUS CHILDREN'S CENTER INC raised.

From the IRS filings of HIBISCUS CHILDREN'S CENTER INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 51 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

HIBISCUS CHILDREN'S CENTER INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 55% of grant income and the top three 75%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

97% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund HIBISCUS CHILDREN'S CENTER INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $920k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
