01What it does

What Help One Now does

Mission

Help One Now empowers families in developing countries through high-capacity local leaders with proven solutions to end extreme poverty.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Education:through our education program, we are investing in a generation who will transform communities from within over time...fostering future leaders and building community resilience. As we provide education, we see individual lives transformed, families freed from the crushing effects of poverty, the local church strengthened and entire communities lifted. High-quality, gospel-centered education saves children's lives, promotes girls and women's rights, and makes people healthier. It boosts economic growth, reduces poverty, and is proven to directly increase income. Our education initiative is rooted in our partnerships with local leaders and the local church. In 2024, in partnership with 6 pre-schools, 10 primary schools and 5 secondary schools in 8 countries, we supported 4,659 students and 213 teachers; we served 1.14 million meals; and we directly affected over 25,000 lives. Support includes tuition, uniforms, supplies, meals, teacher salaries, training, facility upkeep, and opportunities for post-secondary scholarships. Our partner schools have become some of the top schools in their regions and have empowered thousands of students and their families with hope for a…

  2. Entrepreneurship: the Help One Now family business program is a collaborative program designed to end generational poverty by equipping families to achieve long-term financial independence, and to become active contributors to the growth and stability of their community. This program guides families through a 7-step process leading to a successful small business. Long term mentorship and individualized support build on the strengths, motivation and passion of each family, making them more likely to take ownership of their own success and actively participate in solving problems as they occur. This creates financial independence, encourages them to re-invest in the growth of their business and ultimately contributes to the sustainability of additional families through employment and economic contribution. Repeated on a large scale in multiple communities, we see widespread increase in community resilience, economic stability and spiritual health. Our entrepreneurship initiative is rooted in our partnerships with local leaders and the local church. To date, we have empowered over 1,600 families in 12 different communities, with an average increased income of 400-500% and many of…

  3. Community care: community care encompasses many different things, including clean water; access to medical care; food security; trafficking awareness, prevention and care; trauma-informed care and counseling; transitional care, reunification and local adoption; spiritual development, church planting and discipleship; emergency relief, and more. In communities where extreme poverty exists, under-resourced systems often fall short in caring for the most vulnerable. Children without adequate parental care experience neglect, trauma and exploitation while a lack of community resources leads to the basic needs of many going unmet. Help One Now provides 24/7 holistic care to children rescued from or vulnerable to trafficking and provides resources that meet the basic needs of individuals living in extreme poverty but more than this our programs focus on caring for the whole person. Help One Now staff walk alongside individuals and families, resourcing them with the tools needed to heal spiritually and emotionally restoring the belief that their lives have value and that they are capable of success. Our community care initiative is rooted in our partnerships with local leaders and the…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 7 funders to 16 funders, grant income rose $1.6M → $2.0M.

19 of 37 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 93% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of HELP ONE NOW’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 37 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

HELP ONE NOW leans on a few funders — its largest provides 60% of grant income and the top three 84%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

96% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund HELP ONE NOW.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

48% of HELP ONE NOW's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 59% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

93% of HELP ONE NOW's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $1.1M that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside North Carolina, across 12 states.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $14M arriving through sponsors registered in 17 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
