What Friends of Mascoma Foundation does
Mission
To establish and maintain a philanthropic organization to benefit the Mascoma Valley Regional School District. The purpose is to provide support to the Mascoma Valley Regional School District on short-term and long-term initiatives that foster educational development and nutritional well-being for our students and their families. The beneficiaries of the foundation are the school facilities, faculty, students, and their families within the district.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Friends Feeding Friends addresses food insecurity, nutritional well-being, and food waste across the Mascoma Valley region. As an agent of the New Hampshire Food Bank and a registered USDA food pantry serving Enfield and Canaan, NH, we operate three community-based pantry sites, including an in-school pantry at Mascoma Valley Regional High School, and provide supplemental food support to all four schools in the district. In 2025, we distributed over 117,000 pounds of food and personal care items, equating to approximately 97,500 meals for individuals and families facing food insecurity. Using an estimated value of $1.85 per pound, this represents more than $216,000 in direct food assistance delivered to our community. Our programs are designed to meet both immediate and long-term needs. We provide weekly access to two public pantries in Enfield and Canaan, distribute backpacks with food for students to take home, and ensure that households have access to a full week of supplemental food during school breaks. In partnership with the Mascoma Valley Ecumenical Council, we also coordinate annual Thanksgiving distributions for both school and community families. Additionally, through…

Candidates must submit an application. The Board of Directors then evaluates the redacted applications and votes anonymously to award scholarships. Scholarships are presented in person on Senior Awards night. Friends of Mascoma awarded $20,000 in 2025 to 16 graduating seniors.
$30,590 spentof which $20,000 as grants10% of program spendingIn 2025, we will award five Mini-Grants of $1,000 each to support innovation across the Mascoma Valley Regional School District. Our Mini-Grant program is designed to empower teachers and staff to bring bold ideas and creative enrichment opportunities into the classroom-initiatives that fall outside the constraints of the annual school budget. These grants are not about replacing existing funding, but about expanding what's possible for our students. Funding supports projects in areas such as financial literacy, wildlife and environmental education, arts and music exposure, and STEM-based learning. Mini-Grants also help address critical budget shortfalls, ensuring that impactful programs and experiences are not lost due to limited resources. At its core, this program invests directly in educators-giving them the flexibility and support to create meaningful, engaging experiences that enhance student learning and broaden opportunity across the district.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2019 to 2020, from $196k to $312k (+59%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2020 2% · 2021 0% · 2022 0% · 2023 0% · 2024 0% · 2025 0%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
97% of Friends of Mascoma Foundation’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (87% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base narrowed from 7 funders to 5 funders, grant income fell $80k → $30k.
5 of 17 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 46% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of Friends of Mascoma Foundation’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
Friends of Mascoma Foundation has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 28% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left
77% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Friends of Mascoma Foundation.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 46% · 2021 54% · 2022 28% · 2023 49% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
57% of Friends of Mascoma Foundation's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 47% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
79% of Friends of Mascoma Foundation's grant income comes from New Hampshire funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $116k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
