01What it does

What Envision Excellence in STEM Education Inc does

Mission

Envision's mission is to support excellence in science, technology, engineering and math (stem) education for all students, pk-20, nationwide, with an emphasis on underserved students in urban centers and rural communitites. Envision achieves this by guiding collaborative design of dynamic solutions to today's education challenges. Envision forges alliances and establishes the type of coalition among national stem operations necessary to connect all of the stem education activities and build a knowledge base from which stem-based institutions may be launched and stem-based curriculums may be introduced into existing institutions.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Envision accomplishes its mission by forming key partnerships and collaborations with organizations who have aligned goals. The largest program that envision supports is the stem learning ecosystems - a global community of practice with extensive sharing of resources and expertise among leaders from education, business, and industry, non-profits, philanthropy and others. The 100+ communities selected from across the world have demonstrated cross-sector collaborations to deliver rigorous, effective prek-16 instruction in stem learning. Students connected to ecosystems and the pathways they create are intended to be able to connect what they learn in and out-of-school with real-world learning opportunities. Envision works to host annual convenings and manage the communication and connections between all of the members in this community of practice.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 4 funders to 10 funders, grant income rose $97k → $671k.

9 of 37 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 26% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ENVISION EXCELLENCE IN STEM EDUCATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 37 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

ENVISION EXCELLENCE IN STEM EDUCATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 38% of grant income and the top three 60%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

33% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ENVISION EXCELLENCE IN STEM EDUCATION INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.3M arriving through sponsors registered in 7 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
