Programs
See schedule osince 2003, bhc has provided high quality arts-infused early childhood education programs for resident and neighborhood children. Together, bhc's two early childhood centers have the capacity to serve over 250 children from birth to age five and their families. Investment in early childhood education is widely acknowledged to be critical to the health of our economy and the wellbeing of our children, yet new york state has fallen to 24th nationally for state funding per child.the impact of that neglect falls most harshly on the youngest in poor and new immigrant communities. Recent research has found that participation in high quality early education programs boosts the performance of the most disadvantaged children and contributes to a 20-50% reduction in income-related school readiness gaps. Bhc has long recognized the vital role of high quality early education to support positive outcomes for underserved children and their families, including the formerly homeless, those living near or below the federal poverty line and new immigrants with limited or no english language skills.bhc's dorothy day early childhood center and sugar hill museum preschool offer full day…

Reflecting bhc's longstanding commitment to social justice, and with a keen understanding of the multiple causes of generational poverty and homelessness, the sugar hill children's museum of art & storytelling is dedicated to the cognitive and creative development of children ages 3-8 and their families, particularly those growing up in poverty. The museums curatorial and educational programs welcome young children to engage with, learn from, and contribute to the cultural legacy of this community. Bhc's approach to serving very low income and formerly homeless single adults and families is distinctive both for its integrated tenancy inclusive of those with special needs as well as the active engagement of tenants in the management…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.

How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 8 funders to 21 funders, grant income rose $433k → $1.1M.
8 of 43 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 35% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
Left out of every figure on this page: $18M from 4 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Broadway Housing Communities Foundation Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money BROADWAY HOUSING COMMUNITIES INC raised.

Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
BROADWAY HOUSING COMMUNITIES INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 23% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left
42% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BROADWAY HOUSING COMMUNITIES INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 46% · 2018 41% · 2019 30% · 2020 24% · 2021 26% · 2022 33% · 2023 28% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
56% of BROADWAY HOUSING COMMUNITIES INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 63% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
63% of BROADWAY HOUSING COMMUNITIES INC's grant income comes from New York funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $2.3M arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
