01What it does

What Vet to Vet Maine Inc does

Mission

Vet to Vet Maine's mission is to alleviate social isolation and loneliness among veterans and improve their quality of life by providing them with peer companions who also link them to services and benefits.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Peer Companion Program: During FY25, our seventh year as an independent nonprofit, Vet to Vet ME Peer Companions devoted more than 3610 hours to 138 Veterans who needed a friend. Other Volunteers spent nearly 1,500 hours supporting V2VME caregivers and the organizations mission. Our 5 part-time staff members spent their time (3962 hours) recruiting, training, and assigning volunteer peer companions; processing veterans applying for a peer companion, and resolving problems and issues and making referrals for additional services for the veterans in the program. Other volunteers helped with training, calling veterans (phone pal), and activities to assist the veterans in the program.

  2. Caregiver Support Network: This program is eligible to caregivers of veterans enrolled in the Vet to Vet Maine's Peer Companion Program. This program provides information and support to caregivers of veterans. The Caregivers Support Network introduced caregivers to the Personal Support Specialist program, which enables qualified family caregivers to get a stipend for caring for a disabled veteran. A volunteer coordinates the program and an IT contractor operates the Zoom program at four quarterly meetings. The caregivers hear speakers four times a year on topics of interest; caregivers of Vet to Vet Maine veterans who have died recently meet for monthly gatherings to support one another. The coordinator has been in touch with 14 caregivers and an additional 6 caregivers whose veteran died during FY25.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 7 funders, grant income rose $9k → $84k.

2 of 16 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 5% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of VET TO VET MAINE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

VET TO VET MAINE INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 37% of grant income and the top three 74%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

79% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund VET TO VET MAINE INC.

How long its funders stay

43% of VET TO VET MAINE INC's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 38% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $11k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
