01What it does

What Honor Flight Maine Inc does

Mission

Our mission is to take Maine Veterans to Washington DC to see the Memorials erected in their honor. Honor Flight Maine is a non-profit, all volunteer, organization that exists for that sole purpose. On average, Honor Flight Maine takes 3-5 trips a year to Washington DC. Memorials visited with Veterans so that they may tour, experience and reflect include WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Navy, Marines, and Air Force, the Lincoln Memorial, Arlington Cemetery with the changing of the guard, and the Women's Military Museum. Extra events such as trips to Fort Meade and Fort McHenry may be included depending on weather and logistics. HFM covers expenses (for the veterans) for round trip air, 2 nights at the Hilton (BWI), bus transportation and all meals. Wheelchairs are provided to transport those Veterans needing assistance.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. In 2024, Honor Flight Maine took 6 trips to Washington DC and transported 250 Veterans. Board Members actively contact Veterans on our waiting list along with providing prospective Veterans with updates. Information is received from Honor Flight Network headquarters. We utilized social media as an outreach to keep Veterans, Volunteers, and our communities up to date.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 6 funders, grant income rose $4k → $20k.

2 of 19 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 7% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $9k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
