What Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance Inc does

Mission

Cultivate impactful partnerships and learning pathways that inspire and prepare all youth for a stem-enabled future.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Curriculum & Resources: Expenses - $235,172; Grants - $18,968Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance is dedicated to providing educators with access to high-quality instructional materials. Lack of access to resources or quality curriculum can limit an educators ability to provide valuable learning experiences for students. This especially impacts students from underserved and underrepresented populations who experience lower per student spending on instruction. TRSA provides access to these resources and curriculum, so youth are surrounded by opportunities that excite them about STEM, propel them forward, and generate confidence in facilitating STEM experiences for educators. Key projects in 2024 included expansion of STEM Shoppe resources saving schools nearly $350,000; the second and final year of the OpenSciEd Elementary Science curriculum pilot that will make excellent elementary curriculum free across Oklahoma; over 12,000 STEM in a Bags helping to ensure families and communities can access STEM anywhere in our community, and $25,000 in grants for in- and out-of-school time STEM curriculum and resources.Professional Development: Expenses - $196,652; Grants - $10,143The Professional…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 17 funders, grant income rose $2k → $246k.

7 of 32 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 4% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $839k from 4 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Tulsa Community Foundation). These are real filings, and they are not money Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance Inc raised.

From the IRS filings of Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 32 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 46% of grant income and the top three 77%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

73% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance Inc.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $100k arriving through sponsors registered in 7 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
