Programs

  1. Community services provide, maintain and refer people to various, appropriate community resources through our information and referral specialists. Our specialists are trained to work with the clients to determine not only the immediate need to be fulfilled, but other needs or root causes that factor into the problems as well. This affords us the best opportunity to direct them to the help they need. We also provide emergency assistance for travelers and families in crisis who demonstrate a validated need.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 32 funders to 38 funders, grant income rose $857k → $3.4M.

8 of 102 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 12% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $914k from 3 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest The Don & Sybil Harrington Foundation); $286k from one payer (the same organization on both sides, largest The United Way Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money THE UNITED WAY INC raised.

From the IRS filings of THE UNITED WAY INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 102 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

THE UNITED WAY INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 32% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

36% of THE UNITED WAY INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 58% give in more than one year at all.

Texas out of state home

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $2.3M arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
