What The Meadowbrook School does

Mission

The mission of The Meadowbrook School is to bring life to learning for elementary-aged children in a nurturing, fun, and collaborative environment. Our philosophy is to use our diverse, cohesive community to prepare our students for their next steps by cultivating intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth. Our interwoven approach to curriculum fosters confident, compassionate, and creative learners.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Meadowbrook is a small, co-educational independent school founded in 1919. Located in abington township, pa, the school is committed to meeting the intellectual, social, and emotional needs of its students with the framework of a traditional and structured program. Explicit rules are kept to a minimum. Small classes, flexible groupings, extensive use of teaching assistants, a rich array of special offerings, and mixed-age social situations are prevalent. The climate of the school is warm and personal. Helping each other, sharing, working hard, and respecting other people's ideas and feelings are some of the guiding principles. Meadowbrook is also unique in its strong family emphasis. First, parents are viewed as partners in the learning process. Communication between home and school is frequent. Also, meadowbrook is a non-profit parent corporation with each family playing a vital role in the school's development. The board of directors is primarily composed of parents who establish the policies of the school. Finally, parents are evident in all areas of school life. They assist teachers as special resources, helpers on trips, and in organizing special classroom events. There is an…

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 6 funders, grant income rose $26k → $416k.

6 of 17 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 11% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of THE MEADOWBROOK SCHOOL’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

THE MEADOWBROOK SCHOOL leans on a few funders — its largest provides 55% of grant income and the top three 84%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

70% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund THE MEADOWBROOK SCHOOL.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

45% of THE MEADOWBROOK SCHOOL's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 65% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $222k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
