What The Lake George Association Inc does

Mission

Dedicated to the enduring protection of Lake George water quality, achieved through science-guided action, education, advocacy and productive partnerships.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Lake Science and Solutions:Through individual stream sampling, Lake-wide monitoring programs, data-gathering computers, and data modeling and visual simulations, the Lake George Association staff and its science partners, including the Jefferson Project, are probing into Lake George's chemistry, biology, and atmospheric conditions to understand, anticipate and respond to the unprecedented and escalating pressures of nutrient loading, invasive species, excessive road salt use and global climate change. The Lake George Association provides technical and financial assistance to property owners and municipalities; direct protection programs through an array of public-private partnerships focused on invasive species prevention and treatment, road salt reduction, wastewater and stormwater improvements; and public policy advocacy, all with the goal of protecting Lake George's water quality. This includes monitoring and improving development and protection practices around Lake George to ensure that State and local laws are followed during the environmental regulatory review process.

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 14 funders to 41 funders, grant income rose $276k → $1.4M.

17 of 75 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 22% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $50k from one payer (the same organization on both sides, largest The Lake George Association Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money The Lake George Association Inc raised.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.8M arriving through sponsors registered in 11 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
