Mission

To empower our neighbors in crisis to move toward stability and self- sufficiency. We do this by demonstrating respectful compassion; practicing faithful stewardship; and providing: -emergency assistance with food, medicine, housing and utilities -comprehensive referral services and partnerships (individual, family and marriage counseling) -daily enrichment services for senior adults

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. The emergency assistance program works to meet the basic individual needs of those families in the south end who are facing a financial crisis. The program works to stabilize the family by providing financial assistance with utility bills payments and medical needs. For those neighbors in case management through our neighbor network, we are able to provide assistance for additional needs as well, for example transportation and clothing items, needed for work placement as well as expansive resource navigation and advocacy. The emergency assistance program receives inquiries for financial assistance from around 200 families each month, and this program assists in providing not only financial assistance but referral services to those families as well. For example, slcm sends weekly resource newsletters to over 5,800 individuals. In addition, the program maintains an extensive, full "choice" selection dare to care pantry that distributes canned goods, frozen meat products, refrigerated dairy products, fresh produce, infant supplies, clothing vouchers, tarc passes, pet food, and personal hygiene/household items. Over the last year, the pantry has been serving around 280 food orders…

This program relies on volunteers who deliver approximately 2290 lunches a month. Throughout the year, slcm volunteers delivered frozen meals to our frail, home bound elderly in the south end of louisville. During the year, 151 seniors were provided a total of 27,485 meals. For two routes, the food and funding is provided by mary and elizabeth hospital/university of louisville health, while for the other eight routes the food is provided by mastersons' catering with coordination and funding provided by the louisville metro senior nutrition program and kipda. Additionally, we deliver specialized boxes of non- perishable usda commodities to approximately 20 seniors each month. This year, we also provided 211 senior commodity boxes to our home-bound seniors in partnership with dare to care and usda. Connected with our choice pantry, we provide delivery service of pantry groceries to our homebound families as well (about 45 each month) alongside these services, we offer telephone check-ins to provide support and…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 12 funders, grant income rose $27k → $197k.

6 of 27 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 17% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $2.5M from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Association of Community Ministries Inc). These are real filings, and they are not money SOUTH LOUISVILLE COMMUNITY MINISTRIES INC raised.

From the IRS filings of SOUTH LOUISVILLE COMMUNITY MINISTRIES INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SOUTH LOUISVILLE COMMUNITY MINISTRIES INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 15% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

68% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SOUTH LOUISVILLE COMMUNITY MINISTRIES INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

50% of SOUTH LOUISVILLE COMMUNITY MINISTRIES INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 41% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $249k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
