01What it does

What Sam Hubbard Foundation does

Mission

The Sam Hubbard Foundation exists to bring equitable access to food, education, and a healthy lifestyle for all Cincinnatians.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

In 2024, we again expanded our Hubbard's Cupboards program from servicing 13 schools in the spring to servicing 21 schools in the Greater Cincinnati area for the fall term beginning the school year 2024-2025.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. Hubbard's Cupboard - A partnership between Crayons to Computers and the Sam Hubbard Foundation, Hubbard's Cupboards allows underserved students to access the supplies and healthy snacks they need "just in time." If a student's backpack rips in the middle of the school year or a child needs a healthy snack to carry them from lunch to soccer practice, the Cupboard makes it easy for that student to be successful without worry. Each Cupboard is consistently stocked through the year with core school supplies, hygiene products, and healthy snacks. Hubbard's Cupboards directly benefits teachers and their students in need.

  2. Thanksgiving Give Back - With fighting food insecurity still the forefront of our mission, the Sam Hubbard Foundation partnered with The Christ Hospital Health Network on Tuesday, November 26th to distribute 400 Thanksgiving meals to families in need. Sam and the Sam Hubbard Foundation staff spent time with the kids from the Larry & Rhonda Sheakley Boys & Girls Club, playing games, making friendship bracelets, winning prizes and merchandise, and sharing what they were thankful for. Each child received a pre-made meal for their family as they left.

  3. Shop With Sam - On Tuesday, December 3rd the Sam Hubbard Foundation hosted twenty-five students from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati to a private event at King Arthur's Court toy store. The children were treated to a pre-shopping pizza party and activity in the store's private play room. Then each child was allotted $250 and a few hours to shop for Christmas gifts.

  4. Youth Football Camp, various charitable donations - On Friday, June 7th the Sam Hubbard Foundation hosted its annual Youth Football Camp at Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Our FREE camp had 250 kids ages 5-14 participate in a morning of hands-on instruction from high school athletes and coaches as well as Sam Hubbard and other Bengals players. The camp consisted of instruction, demonstrations, drills, skills competitions, and a scrimmage. The day ended with a complimentary lunch for all of the participants. The foundation also contributed to the Children's Hospital SAFE Network Spring Break food program, a fundraising event for Lighthouse Youth & Family Services, the annual Toyz In The Neighborhood Christmas toys event, and the Ronald McDonald House.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2021 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 6 funders, grant income rose $10k → $58k.

7 of 32 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 19% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Sam Hubbard Foundation’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 32 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Sam Hubbard Foundation has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 9% of grant income, and it takes 7 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 7 funders to its left

46% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Sam Hubbard Foundation.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $120k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
