The richard david kann melanoma foundation (rdkmf) is a non-profit organization, whose mission is to save lives through education about the prevention and early detection of skin cancer, especially melanoma, its deadliest form. The newest education and prevention initiative is the distribution of portable touch-free sunscreen dispensers placed in parks, beaches, schools and outdoor areas where sun exposure is excessive. The sunscreen dispenser program involves providing free sunscreen by dispensing a regulated 1 - milliliter dose of sunscreen per application so users can quickly apply the proper amount. Rdkmf most recently partnered with the mayor of philadelphia and the philadelphia phillies to launch a pilot program for a sun smart america city to support the distribution of sunscreen dispensers in cities, ballparks and stadiums. Using the sunsmart america k-12 curriculum, which has been adapted to meet florida standards (formerly sunshine state standards by the department of education), the rdkmf has educated hundreds of thousands of students, families and communities, and empowered them to make critical sun safe choices for healthy lives.
