What Rachel's Table of Western Massachusetts Inc does
Mission
The mission of rachel's table of western massachusetts (rtwm) is to alleviate hunger and reduce the waste of food resources in wm. Rtwm takes a holistic and collaborative approach toward food security by supporting an intergenerational volunteer effort to feed and nourish our local communities.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Rescue- six days per week, drivers from our cadre of volunteers collect food from local supermarkets, restaurants, farms, caterers, and bakeries, and deliver to more than 65 local organizations, 32 affiliate organizations, and 41 informal networks, including food pantries, community meal programs, after school centers, shelters, and more. These organizations are across hampden, hampshire, and franklin counties of western ma. In 2025, our refrigerated van and box truck and volunteer cars delivered over 987,775 pounds of food from over 100 food donors, including farms, to over 70 partner agencies, 40 affiliate agencies and 50 informal networks. 2026 goal: sustain and increase our deliveries to meet the need and consider a dedicated gleaning vehicle to allow for current vehicles for targeted rescue operations
$2,139,473 spent84% of program spendingPurchase- rtwm sponsors several programs to cater even further to specific requests by partner agencies. Fresh fruit for children during the winter months, shelf-stable milk for families and children, and turkeys for thanksgiving are examples of how we support our community's needs desires. This year, our purchase program delivered over 35,000 pounds of requested food to partner agencies. Our 2026 goal: continue to respond to cultural and desired needs of the clients our partner agencies serve.
$138,275 spent5% of program spendingGlean- gleaning is the practice of collecting grain or produce after harvest. 2025 saw a dramatic increase in the gleaning program. We had over 100 gleans, added over 200 new volunteers, and together we harvested over 116,000 pounds of produce, a 131% increase over 2024. Our 2026 goal- sustain our gleaning operations, especially through loss of federal funding, support local farmers, and expand the recipient partners through greater distribution in further geographical areas and purchasing a dedicated gleaning vehicle to better serve the community.
$120,399 spent5% of program spendingGrow - rtwm has supported 11 gardens in which people most directly affected by food insecurity have had an integral part in planning, planting, and harvesting. These gardens provide direct access to healthy food, including in food deserts where lack of accessible transportation makes going to grocery stores challenging. Community-led trainings, cookbooks designed by children, cook-offs for local communities, socialization and raised garden beds for seniors who use wheelchairs, part-time jobs for teenagers, and shared recipes that include tastes of home are just some of the outcomes of this program. Our 2026 goal: complete the sustainability project for several of the gardens to move from direct support to outer network for other newer gardens to be onboarded in 2027.
$135,378 spent5% of program spendingTeen board - our youth leadership program includes a board with officers and members who educate themselves and others about food insecurity, serve our local community in many projects such as packing weekend backpacks of food or cooking for families with children in critical care, and advocate for change by writing letters or learning about local legislation. Our 2026 goal: grow this program to collaborate with other youth leaders in our region.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2023, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2023, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $1.1M to $1.6M (+46%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2023 14% · 2024 10% · 2025 15%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
94% of RACHEL'S TABLE OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS INC’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (94% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.
6 of 20 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 62% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of RACHEL'S TABLE OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 19 of 20 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
RACHEL'S TABLE OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 29% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left
80% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund RACHEL'S TABLE OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS INC.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
62% of RACHEL'S TABLE OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $179k that is directly attributable, 85% of it comes from Massachusetts funders.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $290k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
