Programs
Access - mali rising creates access by building safe, durable middle schools in underserved communities where students have no viable path beyond primary school. Mali rising works with mali's centres for pedagogical activities (centres d'animation pedagogique, or cap) and with local villages to maintain each school and ensure long-term impact. Each school includes three classrooms, latrines, a principal's office, and essential furnishings. Construction is led by local malians, creating jobs and fostering community pride. The access program also includes school fee support and scholarships for many of our students. This program helps students to continue their education through the inspiration scholarships, as well as school fee support for middle school girls. Each school and scholarship helps ensure that distance and cost no longer stand in the way of education.

We support students as they explore their futures through mentorship, career exposure, and leadership development. Through the girls project, we provide menstrual kits so girls can attend school with dignity and consistency. Each year, mali rising distributes over 500 reusable menstrual kits accompanied by health education sessions, along with soccer teams that build confidence and teamwork. Career days and alumni engagement programs introduce students to new possibilities and connect them with role models from their own villages. Through hope grants, former students are able to launch small businesses and return to their communities as mentors for the next generation.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2018 to 2019, from $140k to $194k (+39%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2018 0% · 2019 0% · 2020 0% · 2021 0% · 2024 7%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base held at 2 funders, grant income rose $35k → $50k.
3 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 6% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of MALI RISING FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
MALI RISING FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 72% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
78% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MALI RISING FOUNDATION.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 71% · 2018 62% · 2019 45% · 2020 100% · 2021 100% · 2022 56% · 2023 100% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
77% of MALI RISING FOUNDATION's grant income comes from Utah funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $35k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
