What Imani Christian Academy does

Mission

We embrace all children in our society, particularly those who are underserved, transform them into whole adults - spiritually, academically, physically, and socially - and then release them into lives of purpose and contribution.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Student instruction - we believe that education begins with solid foundations. We meet our children where they are and assure each one is grounded in reading, writing, and mathematics. Then we walk with them as far as their abilities and desire will take them, educating them in the arts, physical sciences, and social sciences, and preparing them for post-secondary education and lifelong learning as our children come to us with many different levels of unmet spiritual and emotional needs. We seek through love to heal their spirits, develop acceptance, forgiveness and self-esteem, and facilitate a new vision within them of their unique potential, the provision for educational activities consistent with good scholarship and our mission statement.

  2. Student activities - we believe that physical education and physical activity are essential for developing the whole child. We teach children to respect their bodies and we train them in healthy living. We believe that personal developments are incomplete unless it includes social development. We teach children life skills and we invest in their interpersonal and cross-cultural competence so that they will become fully functional adults, ready to engage in family, participate in community and contribute to society. The provision for activities that promotes a well rounded christian individual.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 8 funders to 22 funders, grant income rose $51k → $1.4M.

7 of 46 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 13% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of IMANI CHRISTIAN ACADEMY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 46 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

IMANI CHRISTIAN ACADEMY leans on a few funders — its largest provides 34% of grant income and the top three 68%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

52% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund IMANI CHRISTIAN ACADEMY.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.0M arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
