What Hands of Christ a Duluth Cooperative Ministry Inc does
Mission
The duluth co-op, is a faith-based ministry, that brings our community together to provide food, emergency assistance, and hope to neighbors in need. We serve people in need of all races and national orgin in duluth ga, zip codes of 30096 and 30097. In the last seven years, the duluth co-op has seen a seven-fold increase in the number of people seeking food and other assistance. In total, 5,439 families (23,003 individuals) received help last year. Clients are able to pick up food twice per month, have access to financial aid, clothing and furniture referrals, holiday programs as well as one-on-one support from our caring volunteers. If needed, we also provide lyft rides to the co- op. Due to the generosity of our surrounding community, the estimated value of food distributed was 570,555. In total, 289,622 pounds of food was distributed in 2024. Significant upgrades in technology were required to meet the demands during the covid-19 pandemic. Programs
In an effort to prevent homelessness in our community, the co-op distributed 218,068 in financial aid, a 49% increase in financial support over 2022. Assistance was provided to 406 families for rent/emergency lodging and 272 families for utility payments. We provide financial assistance to: the disabled, seniors 60+, and legal guardians of children in secondary school or younger. In 2023 we also provided gift cards to 684 families totaling 20,150 to help relieve the impact of rising inflation, and in particular, historic gas prices. All clients have access to a job board and one-on-one budgeting assistance, as well as other resources in the area.
