01What it does

What Global Health Ministries does

Mission

Global Health Ministries builds partnerships to benefit lutheran efforts in health care for some of the world's most vulnerable people. Ghm accomplishes this mission with three broad strategies: shipping of medical supplies, grassroots efforts and leadership training.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Shipping medical supplies and equipment: most mission hospitals lack important medical equipment and even basic supplies. Global Health Ministries (ghm) gathers donated medical items, from exam gloves to ultrasounds, and matches them to requests from partners in developing countries. We purchase and ship new equipment as well, making quality health care accessible for some of the world's most vulnerable people. In 2025 ghm shipped 16 sea containers in support of hospitals and clinics in four countries. Fifteen travelers hand carried medical supplies and equipment in twenty four suitcases to nine different countries.

  2. Grassroots efforts: ghm supports efforts to train and sustain community health workers (chw) to build capacity in lower & middle income countries to improve health and effect sustainable and enduring change. In 2025, ghm supported chw programs in el salvador, madagascar, nicaragua, nigeria, and tanzania.

  3. Leadership training: upon request, ghm offers consultants in governance, management, and leadership for health leaders in the developing world, through our consulting department. In 2025, ghm conducted 14 consultations in 8 countries and is enhancing long-term relationships in several partner countries. Ghm funded training & scholarships for 1,451 people in five countries.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 12 funders to 16 funders, grant income rose $319k → $1.1M.

14 of 40 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 23% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of GLOBAL HEALTH MINISTRIES’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 40 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

GLOBAL HEALTH MINISTRIES leans on a few funders — its largest provides 51% of grant income and the top three 71%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

26% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund GLOBAL HEALTH MINISTRIES.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.3M arriving through sponsors registered in 13 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
