01What it does

What Give N Kind does

Mission

Givenkind sources and efficiently redistributes excess goods in the economy to local nonprofit organizations to fill needs in our community. Nonprofits receive needed items that support their programs and diverting quality goods away from landfills reduces the environmental impact on all of us. Usable goods don't belong in landfills, especially when those goods fill a need in our community.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Givenkind strengthens nonprofit programs by supplying essential donated goods that help remove everyday barriers to success. The organization rescues surplus, overstocked, out-of-season, and close-dated products from businesses across the united states and redistributes them to qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. By ensuring access to basic necessities, givenkind enables nonprofits to deliver more effective services and improve outcomes for the individuals and families they serve. In 2025, givenkind distributed 19.24 million in donated products to 307 nonprofit partners and fulfilled 3,535 resource requests. These goods supported a wide range of nonprofit programs, including education and job training, child care, counseling, healthcare, homelessness and hunger services, arts and culture, and animal welfare. Access to essential items such as clothing, food, personal care products, and household goodsallowed nonprofit partners to address immediate needs so participants could more fully engage in programming and move toward long-term stability. Givenkinds work also advances environmental sustainability by redirecting usable products away from landfills and into community…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 4 funders to 13 funders, grant income rose $14k → $196k.

10 of 28 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 69% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of GIVE N KIND’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 25 of 28 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

GIVE N KIND has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 21% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

69% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund GIVE N KIND.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

50% of GIVE N KIND's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 50% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

69% of GIVE N KIND's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $176k that is directly attributable, 93% of it comes from Illinois funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $400k arriving through sponsors registered in 8 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
