01What it does

What Figure Skating in Harlem Inc does

Mission

Figure skating in harlem helps girls transform their lives and grow in confidence, leadership and academic achievement. We are the only organization in the world for girls of color that combines the power of education with access to the artistic discipline of figure skating to build champions in life.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. In FY25, Figure Skating in Harlem continued to expand our mission beyond our local community as our Disney+ docuseries, Harlem Ice, brought our story to the entire world. We also announced efforts to expand by pursuing a permanent, year-round rink of our own in Harlem. Across our core I Can Excel program, Summer Dreams, Winter Dreams, and Pipeline 2 Power program, we served 427 girls and young women this year, a 7% over FY24. FSHs Detroit chapter also became an independent nonprofit operating under its own 501c3.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 22 funders to 37 funders, grant income rose $553k → $1.3M.

23 of 119 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 50% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of FIGURE SKATING IN HARLEM INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 119 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

FIGURE SKATING IN HARLEM INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 14% of grant income, and it takes 8 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 8 funders to its left

63% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FIGURE SKATING IN HARLEM INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $4.5M arriving through sponsors registered in 14 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
