What Feline Rescue Inc does
Mission
To provide shelter, foster, veterinary care, community outreach, and appropriate adoption or placement assistance for domestic cats in need of compassionate care.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
Our shelter, located at 593 fairview ave, serves as the epicenter of feline rescue's operations. The shelter provides a safe and nurturing environment where cats receive essential veterinary services, including sterilization surgery and rabies vaccinations, and are prepared for adoption. The shelter is a comforting space for those who make the decision to surrender a cherished pet, and it's a welcoming space for those looking to bring home a new best friend. We also host educational events to promote responsible pet ownership and community involvement. Through our shelter program, we strive to create a safe transition for cats as they look for a permanent home. In 2024 alone, we had 421 intakes and successfully adopted out 434 cats to 366 unique adopters, reflecting our commitment to finding loving homes for every cat.
$401,075 spent$63,416 earned by the program51% of program spendingSince its inception in 1997, feline rescue's foster program has been a mainstay of our mission to provide care, veterinary services, and adoption opportunities for cats with intensive needs. Our program supports cats that struggle in traditional adoption centers, including pregnant and nursing cats, underage orphan kittens, injured cats, those with chronic medical conditions, and elderly or frail cats. By placing these cats in foster homes, we ensure they receive individualized attention and care for their highly specialized medical or behavioral needs prior to adoption.
$358,551 spent46% of program spendingOur outreach program is dedicated to supporting the twin cities metro area in managing and caring for community cats. We provide expert advice on best practices, offer assessments and referrals for cats in need, and fund trap-neuter-return (tnr) efforts through donations. Additionally, we loan essential equipment, such as live traps and heated water bowls, and distribute insulated winter shelters to ensure the well-being of outdoor cat colonies. Our program is a vital resource for field rescuers and low-income community members committed to humane cat care.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $3.4M to $2.7M (−20%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2021 16%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
90% of FELINE RESCUE INC’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (74% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 5 funders to 17 funders, grant income rose $44k → $149k.
13 of 36 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 55% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of FELINE RESCUE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 36 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
FELINE RESCUE INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 23% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left
98% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FELINE RESCUE INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 79% · 2018 79% · 2019 58% · 2020 44% · 2021 43% · 2022 42% · 2023 27% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
35% of FELINE RESCUE INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 64% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
55% of FELINE RESCUE INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $497k that is directly attributable, 94% of it comes from funders outside Minnesota, across 8 states.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $599k arriving through sponsors registered in 11 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
