01What it does

What Child Abuse Prevention Association does

Mission

To break the destructive cycle of child abuse and neglect by equipping parents, children, and their caregivers with necessary skills, knowledge, and values.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. In 2025, capa (Child Abuse Prevention Association) broke the cycle of abuse through a comprehensive continuum of prevention, family strengthening, and residential care. We empowered 16,931 students with life skills in personal safety and emotional literacy, while mitigating infant mortality risks by distributing 195 portable cribs to expectant parents. To stabilize at-risk households, we provided evidence-based triple p training to 67 parents and delivered intensive home visitation services to 47 high-risk families (111 children). Our foster care initiative expanded community capacity by licensing 7 new foster families, providing 9,817 days of stable placement for 65 children in resource family homes. Finally, we provided a vital safety net for the most vulnerable, delivering 3,316 days of trauma- informed residential care to 25 victims of severe neglect and abuse at our open arms childrens home.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 6 funders to 14 funders, grant income rose $129k → $319k.

8 of 28 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 56% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION ASSOCIATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION ASSOCIATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 33% of grant income and the top three 67%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

93% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION ASSOCIATION.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Where its funders are

56% of CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION ASSOCIATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $965k that is directly attributable, 82% of it comes from South Carolina funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.2M arriving through sponsors registered in 7 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
