Programs

The play program was removed to focus more on the reentry and housing programs.
Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).
Housing program:brookside community housing exists to provide dignity, stability, and accountability to both individuals and families that struggle with inconsistent and unreliable housing. Participants experience peace and connection through the relationships that come with being a part of the brookside family. Each restoration project brings together volunteers and staff that reflect the diversity that is so important to the brookside community. Each project is more than a home. It's an investment in the people who make our neighborhood unique. Brookside community housing currently owns 35 addresses. In 2024, our housing programs provided a safe home for 67 individuals across 35 properties, including 26 families. We also launched our first community garden, strengthening our commitment to building a thriving, supportive community.

Our community-centered approach provides a critical solution to housing instability, which is a major contributor to recidivism. We offer both short-term transitional housing and traditional housing programs, providing individuals with a safe place to live and the intensive support needed to find employment and achieve long-term stability.we don't do this alone. We partner with community organizations, church partners, and individuals. Together, we bring services that mirror jesus' model of compassion and love directly to our community, rebuilding lives with the gospel as the central motivation for all that we do. In 2024, our reentry program served 356 individuals and provided over 8,200 services, including meals, transportation, and counseling. Research shows that children and teens who grow up in underresourced neighborhoods like brookside experience trauma at higher rates than their peers. This trauma often results in behavior issues and poor academic performances. Our elementary-age program helps children grow socially and emotionally, while our education & employment academy helps teens find their place, purpose and passion. Play also offered a 5 week summer play camp/learning lab in partnership with the mind trust.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2018, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2018, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2019 to 2020, from $678k to $1.7M (+147%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
84% of BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (39% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 10 funders, grant income rose $40k → $169k.
9 of 34 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 31% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 34 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 30% of grant income and the top three 65%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
50% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 95% · 2018 32% · 2019 38% · 2020 69% · 2021 60% · 2022 35% · 2023 41% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
35% of BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 50% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
93% of BROOKSIDE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION's grant income comes from Indiana funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.2M arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
