01What it does

What Z Girls Foundation does

Mission

Zgirls equips girls with the tools and perspective they need to be confident, centered, and courageous.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

On its FY2025 return the organization reported starting a significant new program.

Confidence Through the Holidays is a 60-minute virtual workshop. Launched a Peer Mentorship program.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

  1. ZGiRLS Confidence Program - The ZGiRLS Confidence Program is our flagship 4-week online program serving middle school girls (ages 1114) across the country. Co-taught by trained facilitators and Olympic/professional female athletes, the program helps girls develop a growth mindset, build self-worth, navigate challenges, and advocate for themselves. In 2025, we served 604 girls across 27 states and 256 schools, with 524 participating in our online programs. 77% of participants received scholarships, ensuring access regardless of financial circumstances. 68% of participants identified as BIPOC, and our mentor team reflected that diversity. Program evaluations showed strong impact, including an increase in average confidence from 3.3 to 4.2 out of 5, with 100% of participants reporting they are more likely to use ZGiRLS skills in their daily lives. This program remains our highest-impact and most in-demand offering. Continued on Schedule O...

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 5 funders to 11 funders, grant income rose $44k → $104k.

8 of 31 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 59% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Z GIRLS FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 31 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Z GIRLS FOUNDATION has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 22% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

61% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Z GIRLS FOUNDATION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

30% of Z GIRLS FOUNDATION's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 35% give in more than one year at all.

first grant+1y+2y+3y+4y+5y+6y

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

59% of Z GIRLS FOUNDATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $312k that is directly attributable, 72% of it comes from Washington funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $447k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
