What Wolf Park Inc does
Mission
Wolf park is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to behavorial research, education, and conservation, with the objective of improving the public's understanding of wolves and the value they provide to our environment.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
The core program activities of wolf park are general public education and the care of the resident animal ambassadors. The park hosts the general public throughout the year. In 2022, we hosted over 20,000 visitors at the park. Visitors can tour the park which includes a pack of wolves living in a six-acre natural habitat, plus additional animals including wolves, coyotes, foxes, and bison in other enclosures. Staff members present lectures and demonstrations of wolf behavior. Wolf park's 1,500+ members receive a quarterly informational and educational newsletter. They can also attend member events and receive discounts. Animal care and husbandry standards are maintained at the highest levels of quality. In addition to routine and non-routine veterinary care, wolf park maintains a very active environmental enrichment program.
Wolf park presents seminars on a variety of topics including wolf and dog behavior, wildlife photography, and animal training. In 2022, we hosted youth summer camps and nature art programs. We also continued to provide daily educational programs such as tours, keeper talks, and handling demonstrations with our animals. Over 20,000 people attended our onsite programs, with thousands more visiting us virtually for webinars and zoom visits.
Wolf park maintains a very active research and education program under the leadership of dr. Clive wynne with the assistance of dr. Gordon burghardt. Several studies with the wolves have been completed and the results published in scientific journals. As a result of these studies, several animal researchers from other universities have come to the park to study the animals. Wolf park also offers 1-3 month internships for individuals over the age of 18. In 2022, 15 interns studied at wolf park and worked alongside the staff with the daily operations, as well as assisted with research projects.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $1.7M to $2.4M (+46%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2020 10% · 2021 6%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
86% of WOLF PARK INC’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (88% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $2k → $5k.
5 of 16 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 53% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of WOLF PARK INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
WOLF PARK INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 25% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left
53% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund WOLF PARK INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 67% · 2019 70% · 2020 37% · 2021 23% · 2022 62% · 2023 46% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
25% of WOLF PARK INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 38% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
53% of WOLF PARK INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $54k that is directly attributable, 95% of it comes from funders outside Indiana, across 9 states.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $62k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
