Program

  1. Westridge is an independent forward-thinking girls' school in pasadena, ca committed to developing intellectually adventurous thinkers and courageous, compassionate leaders. Founded by mary lowther ranney in 1913 -- in the backdrop of the suffragist movement to give girls access to the rigors of education their brothers were getting, westridge's motto is surgere tentamus (we strive to rise); this forward-thinking mission continues to drive our work today as a school of 550 students from grades 4-12. Westridge is a space where girls are the most powerful voices in every room, they are every member of the advanced physics class or rocketry club, the most celebrated athletes, the most courageous and compassionate leaders; it's a school community where girls are encouraged to take chances, make mistakes, think deeply, and get involved. Westridge has empowered generations of girls to challenge the status quo, improve their school and the world around them, and look for ways to lead and serve their community.westridge offers an intellectually engaging and challenging curriculum, a balance of the humanities, mathematics, science, technology, visual and performing arts, and athletics.…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 15 funders to 29 funders, grant income rose $788k → $1.2M.

18 of 63 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 51% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $650k from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest The Fund for Partnership for Success). These are real filings, and they are not money WESTRIDGE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS INC raised.

From the IRS filings of WESTRIDGE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 63 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

WESTRIDGE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 31% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

52% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund WESTRIDGE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

40% of WESTRIDGE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 79% give in more than one year at all.

Where its funders are

51% of WESTRIDGE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $4.6M that is directly attributable, 94% of it comes from California funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $4.7M arriving through sponsors registered in 14 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
