01What it does

What Vindeket does

Mission

To empower each of us to take ownership in the food cycle to restore our earth, our communities, and ourselves.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. 2025 was a year to be remembered. We increased the amount of food rescued to 2,228,545.85 pounds. We were able to move into our new home that we purchased at the end of 2024 after we completed a remodel and brought the facility up to code. Testimonials from our participants: "a gem and an invaluable resource that saves lives, not just food. I would say a good 80% of my groceries per month come from Vindeket. I've been shopping here almost a year, staff is amazing, food quality is good and worth it in every way to you/your community. So much more than a grocery store this is a community hub, where good- hearted, conscientious people volunteer, shop, connect, and make an impact by living in alignment with their values. Whether you're an environmentalist, frugalist, creative cook, stressed caretaker, volunteer, or concerned citizen, Vindeket is for you. Come help reduce food waste, reduce your carbon footprint, save money, inspire creativity, experiment with new foods, make a donation, and connect to the community. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 7 funders, grant income rose $5k → $32k.

10 of 23 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 66% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of VINDEKET’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 21 of 23 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

VINDEKET has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 22% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

66% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund VINDEKET.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

75% of VINDEKET's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 35% give in more than one year at all.

first grant+1y+2y

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

66% of VINDEKET's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $153k that is directly attributable, 64% of it comes from funders outside Colorado, across 6 states.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $300k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
